Japan Travels

Kyoto is the best spot in Japan. Lots of shrines, temples a d history. I am a little `shrined` out right now so i have the obligation to bore you. Tony is on duty with Joanne-- she never tires and yet I am exhausted. Her sore leg has sure slowed her down--NOT.Cherry blossom time in Japan is the national party time like Mardi Gras in New Orleans. We are several days early but already the festive atmosphere is everywhere. We had a fellow stop us as we pondered our directions and escorted us for 5 minutes or so to give us explicit directions--very friendly. Right now Toe a d Jo are hoofing it to Niho Castle and you can bet かくち

The latest from mom...

Here is mom's latest update....this Japanese computer seems to not understand all of the punctuation...hope you can understand it anyways....

Monday March 28

Up fairly early and headed out on the bullet to Nikko ・Northeast of Tokyo. Weather forecast was to be warmer・his was true, but it turned out to be RAINY! Nikko is a small town known for its shrine ・it痴 an amazing complex with several beautiful, ornate Buddhas and some typical Japanese gardens. The setting in the forested area on a mountainside in the mist was truly・mystical. Following that we toured the emperor痴 villa. It痴 on 10,000 acres and it was over 100 rooms.

Random thoughts.

English signs are everywhere・ut they don稚 always make sense.

School age girls seem to think walking pigeon toes are really cool and they wear pointed spike healed shoes. Sling back shoes are used as slip-ons and they clack around.

Also noticed young women with bowed legs・ondered if there痴 a correlation between the shoes and bowed legs.

Trains are packed with people・hey all seem to be either listening to headphones or text messaging on their cel phones.

Lots of people wear medical masks. Tony says it痴 because they have a cold and are trying to prevent it from spreading. Maybe it痴 something we should look into, along with bowing instead of handshaking・.(MOM IS BECOMING A LOT LIKE HOWARD HUGHES.)

Definitely no shoes in any of the homes. Tony is a real stickler・ad had problems abiding by the rules.

Today. Tuesday March 29, 2005

We致e been gone a week. We woke up to a sunny day in Nikko. I walked along a beautiful gorge are with lots of waterfalls and beautiful clean water. We went back to the bullet and headed into Tokyo.

Arriving into the Tokyo station we left our luggage in a locker and headed into Ueno park which reminded me of Stanley Park・here are museums, art galleries, a science world and a zoo. There was a lane under the cherry blossom trees that was very beautiful. The cherry blossoms weren稚 out yet, but there were already many reserved sites for people to have their picnics when the blossoms come into bloom.

Checked into our hotel and then headed out for some sightseeing. The train station was a sea of people. It was truly a moving sea. Good thing we池e tall. Saw conductors physically pushing people on in order to get the to squeeze onto the train.

Off to the restaurant of a friend of a friend of Tony痴 where we were royally treated and had a traditional Japanese meal. We had a variety of appetizers including deep fried squid tentacles which were salty and delicious. The main course was cooked on a grill in front of us. It was called 溺onja・・it included smoked salmon, and cabbage and batter. It was scrumptuous.

We made out way back to the hotel・fter 9 o団lock. The subways were still jammed with people. This is how I envisioned Japan.

Going to bed now as we have to get up at 5am to check out a big fish market and go on a bus tour of Tokyo.

Hope everyone is doing well. We池e having a great time here.

Another road trip update.

I'm going to try to type this as my parents dictate.

This post could use editting but will be uneditted.

Dad: Start by mentioning how dissappointed you are that nobody has posted comments on our video update. That will be the last time we do that. You also better mention Jim Duncan and Stan Perrault specifically when you say you are dissappointed.

Mom: The last 2 days have been....

Dad: Eventful, Mom sprained her knee...

Mom: Sigh.

Mom: We left off after Yamada Sensei's house.

Dad: There will be no more video contributions because Danny's been told that he looked drunk.

Dad: Okay, so we went off to Matsushima bay.

Mom: Took the ferry.

Dad: Beautiful.

Mom: Absolutely gorgeous.

Dad: Purchased a cane.

Mom: Why do you say that...don't even go there?

Dad: I think you should say that it was serendipitous that we found the cane. I like that word, and we were lucky to find it....that word'll have Jimmy looking for the Funk and Wagnall.

Mom: Anyway, we hiked up to the viewpoint.

Dad: I thought it was similar to Horseshoe bay.

Mom: There were numerous small islands...

Dad: Dotting the bay as waves lapped on the shore.

Mom: We walked along the beach...

Dad: the prominade snaking along the beach. We returned for a traditional Japanese repast of puppies on a stick and corn on the cob.

Mom: Repast...R.E.P.A.S.?

Dad: T. Trust me.

Mom: Then we took the train to downtown Sendai and enjoyed a great....what do you call it?

Dad: Dinner.

Mom: With four of Tony's friends.

Dad: I think Tom kinda liked you?

Mom: Oh geez.

Dad: Not in the sense that you just said, Oh geez.

Mom: Have we got anything about the weather?

Me: Well, talk about it.

Dad: Well, Tony, you told us that it hadn't snowed in March in 25 years, and it's snowed the last two days.

Mom: I have to wear my clothes to bed.

Dad: I'm going to bed.

Mom: We should wear toques to bed.

Mom: Happy Easter to everybody.

Dad: It's not Easter yet.

Mom: Finish it off so we can play cards.

Dad: (Referring to Mom's drunkenness (SHE IS HAMMERED)) Joanne you are pissed as a newt.

Me: How do you spell newt?

Mom: That's enough. You're a danger.

Video killed the audio star...

Hey nerds. Another day, another video update.

This time, a tour. Sorry I had such a hard time keeping things in the frame. I suck at videoing with a webcam.

Anyways...potentially a pretty boring 7 minutes...but if you're desperate, try my tour.

If what you want is an enchanting 10 or so minutes, try this link.

Not much to say

Not much to say today...but I did stumble across this awesome pic:

I think it's real, but I don't know.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

It was on a messageboard and the original poster was not a fan of Apple computers. (Apples are for losers and hippies IMO.)

That's it for today. If you're interested in my trip with my parents, you can see the itinerary here.

I'm really excited, but reading the itinerary isn't exactly like reading Grisham if you know what I mean.

Graduation Day!

One of these special needs people graduated today. Can you guess which one?

(Perhaps my worst picture ever!)

Japanese Junior High graduations are a big deal, the kids are together from elementary school until now, but in high school, they go their seperate ways. So today was the graduation ceremony. Lots of tears were shed! Anyway, the Japanese know how to do a ceremony. (Men in suits come to our Ultimate frisbee tournaments for opening and closing ceremonies...it's insane!)

The BEST thing is walk together out of the school for the last time as their parents and teachers form a receiving line and say their goodbyes. It's a ton of fun joking around and wishing them luck.

Anyway...here are my pics from the day. As always, click the pic to enlarge.

These are two of the best students at my school Really good kids. The boy on my left was the student council president.

These girls spoke at the graduation and did a good job. This pic was taken before the ceremony.

The teachers were looking hot in their kimonos. Very dressy occasion...the principal even wore tails.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson power bombing Ricardo Arona at a recent Pride.

A couple of homies from the handball team.

Video BABY!

The baton has been passed to me. It is my honour to accept and respond in video form.

I realize I missed number 3 in the video, the most recent song for me is "Favorite Son" by Greenday, because I am my parents' favourite son.

As I mention in the video, it's now up to Duncan and Lola to give us the goods on the following questions:

1. Total amount of music files on your computer:

2. The last CD you bought was:

3. What is the song you last listened to before reading this message?

4. Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you:
