Kilometer Khallenge
B2K has a tremendous post detailing his thoughts on the Kms Komp. Definitely an apt description of what's going on. Most KMs for the month starting March 18 finishing ?April 15? wins a yet to be determined prize.
After day one, the score is 10-5 for B2K, but I will definitely get in a run before work tomorrow morning to even things up.
I've gotta say I'm feeling like a HUGE underdog here!
From Bill's post:
"On Friday did my Best 5 KM - 26:49 - My first sub 27:00 5km
Today I knocked out my best ever 10Km completing it in 55:00 even."
Just for some perspective, these were the types of times I was putting up when I was in marathon shape (2450th place)...right now I struggle to run sub 30 minutes for 5km, and would be about 1:05-1:10 if I had I gutted out a 10K. So to summarize - the competition is in very good shape and I am not.
That said, I'm going to give it the old college try, and am predicting I finish this thing with around 120 kms under my feet. If B2K can beat me, I think he deserves it. Anything under 100K from me will be a pretty big disappointment. Over 120 will be a big success!
I'm still giving myself a chance as B2K has never put up a month with over 100K....so he'll be in uncharted territory. You never know what will happen!
BTW....team Caputo was in, but now, he's apparently out. Word on the street -21 is "too cold" for his sensitive skin. He's looking for some sort of KM allowance due to the inclement weather. NO DICE! You should have thought of the Khallenge implications before you chose your law school in the frozen tundra of Saskatoon. Maybe we can do another Khallenge in the summer.
Anyway, it's on, and I am definitely going to devote myself to this for the next month.
PS
The timing could NOT be worse for me in terms of work. It's exam season and I'm ridiculously busy. Interestingly I'll be off from Mid April to early May, and I'll only be working about 20 hours a week for May, June, July and August...so I hope that means that I'll keep on running!

Duncan Bites off More than he can Chew
Somebody just threw down a challenge in my comments!
Challenge accepted.
It's ON!
I've already run 4 consecutive days (5K per day). One day I ran without my Nike/Ipod gizmo...it almost feels like a waste since it screws up my stats - never again.
I've been basically running back and forth along a 400 meter straight stretch in front of my house. I think the neighbours are starting to think I'm weird. There is also no question in my mind that tons of drug deals go down in greenstone park. I'm thinking of putting up some sort of surveillance camera to get rid of the druggies...I want them gone! Stat! They're ruining my runs.

Mo Headphones....Mo problems
so...I got some new headphones, but the cord for the right headphone is much shorter than the cord for the left headphone.
Am I missing something?
Should I be wearing them differently?
The right headphone becomes a "load-bearing" headphone and all the strain comes on my right ear.
Should the weight of the headphone cord be evenly distributed?
I have no idea why they are such extremely different lengths. Can anyone out there let me know?
Thasnks.
5k per day every day for a month.
Is it possible?
I went on my first run in about 6 months today. Felt pretty good. Although I've been working long hours teaching, I've also been taking 2 hour lunches. I certainly could squeeze in 5k every day. The only question is, am I motivated enough?
Time will tell.
I usually run just under 30 minutes for 5k, so considering how out of shape I am, I was pleased to come in at around 30:30 today. I think by the end of the week I'll be sub 30 minutes.
I'll keep you posted.
My Constant Happiness Explained
It's somewhat indirect, but I think this article explains why I tend to be a happy person.

I've stopped watching Lost.
It used to be my favorite shows.
Here's a parody that pretty much sums up my frustration.
